The weathering looks fine mate, not over done. The way i look at building a model, you would not have a nice shiny paint job, and a rusty bum and oil leaks everywhere. It all has to blend in perfectly. Thanks DeeCee. I agree. And coming from airplanes I think my tendency will be to over-weather. Gotta watch that. That'll make two of us on that one Greg!

I wouldn't worry about over weathering on a bug mate, every one I've had didn't need satnav, just follow the oil trail. Me and my dad used to be able to swap engines over in half an hour on our old type 2 bay window. But it seemed to destroy engines

Small update.... Chassis is done except for mounting tires/wheels. As a kid, I had always planned to learn to strip and re-do chrome. Figured the very shiny kit rims would be a good start. Alclad chrome: They actually look much better in person. Coming from airplane models, I'm not used to these shiny, perfect surfaces/finishes. As you can see, I got some bumps. They showed up after shooting the Alclad gloss base black. I don't really expect comments, nothing here you guys haven't done 100 times.

Alclad chrome can get real tricky as it's gotta be applied at low pressure. I'll dig up my notes for you if you want. I will say that another trick car guys use is to use a coat of Tamiya Smoke (X-19). It gives the chrome a little more of a natural steel look while acting as a bit of a wash as well. The look it gives is well worth the purchase of a bottle of it.
For instance, you can see the difference between the untouched kit chrome wheel on the right and the one on the left that I hit with a coat of Tamiya Smoke.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand installed on a car:

BTW...........it's looking like that new Molotow trick with the Spaz Stix Ultimate Clear is going to be the new hot ticket for resin or stripped kit wheels. It's gonna take a little practice for me to get it perfect but I'm already liking that stuff.

Thanks Joe, DeeCee. I do appreciate your being here. I have a pretty much done chassis now.... Though it doesn't show up in photo 2, I used Stitchedup's trick rubbing on pastels with my finger a little more and I really like it. That's the best trick I've learned in a while. Thanks again, Stitch. It even hold up better to clear overspray than applying with brush. Thanks for the help with the chrome, Joe. I probably should have slowed down, let your catch up with me. I have some Tamiya smoke, I remember you using that before.

That engine really looks good sitting in there mate, and the under body weathering is just enough i think.

Thanks for checking in for proof of life, Joe.
I've been a little bit stuck deciding on an interior paint scheme and perusing what I can find online of VW interiors.
But mostly I'm stuck because I have been stung by a second 3rd party hosting site, this time Postimage. All of my pic have again disappeared. My words on this subject are not printable and I'm not sure which direction, if any, I am going to proceed. If I am going to move forward, pretty sure it isn't going to be another free 3rd party host. I got fooled twice, shame on me.

I've had it for a while now and haven't had a problem yet. There's still a few out there that are free but I don't take the chance any more but I sure as HELL aint gonna pay PB in the upwards of 500 bucks a year to post photos on forums.

I've been using them since photobucket decided to go loopy with their pricing, and I havent looked back.

Thank you, Stitch.
I surely do appreciate your idea. I do have a Flickr account but I'm not a fan of Yahoo nor of how their interface works. That's why I switched (for a third time) to Postimage. cant-believe-my-eyes-smiley-emoticon

Joe, I don't know what to say.
First, I got the rug pulled out from under me by Photobucket (along with the rest of the internet), and then by Postimage. I'm not sure where to find the energy to start again.

I'm not sure where to find the energy to start again. I had the same thing happen to me from PB Greg. I haven't officially lost all of my photos over there yet but I haven't used them since I've started an account at Image Shack. I've elected not to get a free account but the one I have is next to it at around $30 per year and that is one HELLUVA lot better than $500 from PB. People have lost their dang minds if they think they can charge that kind of money for photo storage. No worries buddy as that's life. We back up, regroup and re-approach!
Cheer up fella..........tomorrow's a new day.
