Thanks guys ! And Sharp the engine and trans are hand painted in shades of little Humbrol tins called metal cote ! Normally I would spray them but the UK is freezing, or raining now so I can't spray ! Been hitting a few problems, had to disassemble one side of the front suspension to get the engine in, can just fit from underneath now ! So I got a bit girly and tried reading the instructions, hmmm , turns out your supposed to fit the engine first ! ! 4fvgdaq_th Get some pics up soon as the engines in, front suspensions back together and the firewalls just needs paint before I fit it. Deciding on a colour for that and the inner wings, semi gloss black, silver or body colour...which I've not decided on either ! thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon Have a good new years everyone, more soon ! egyptian

Another step forward ! Taken ages this engine bay cover, I obviously want it flush with the edges of the wings etc, as seen from above, but its also got to sit flush with the chassis and miss the headers, front suspension etc ! Thats my excuse as to why this projects moving slowly at the moment anyway ! I finally decided on matt black, with a textured finish. Hopfully, this was to make it look a little more modern. Flush mounted radiator cap and a air vent was then added too ! Still deciding on an engine cover, its on its way ! !

You have done a MAGNIFICENT job on that engine bay mate... PERFECT !! I think it would have looked better in a gloss though, maybe an accent color what you have planned for the body or even body color.. Show off what you have done mate, don't hide it under flat black, it looks great

I agree with Dale, you did a awesome job on the engine compartment painting that the body color would really show off the engine.

Sorry bout the wait, but after a chat with DeeCee recently i decided to get the glue out again ! Thought id get this up on wheels next, fronts done so its the rear end now... Wanting this as low as possible causes hassle, thought the rear would be easier, but nope... I%20dunno_zpsgjbxiscc To get it low the axle needed narowing, so i cut it up and added a metal rod through the middle to keep it straight ! Also cut off the round discs so you can see the new disc brakes. Next was disc brakes, now i cant get them 3D printed, and im not buying any, so i photocopied some Its only so you see them through the spokes of the wheels and they look okay ! I printed 4 fronts and 4 backs and glued them together ! Once the axle is painted the tyres can glue to the inside of the arches, cant get it any lower, then i can make up a 4 link rear end ! Heres some pics, hopefully im back on this now !

I don't know how I missed this . That engine bay is stunning but, I would have to agree with the others, don't hide it under flat black. Nice work on the rear Martin, I will be watching from now on. Now that is a sneaky trick... photocopying the discs... COOL !!! One could do a sheet of them, and stick them to washers... thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon
See, your back for one day mate, and throwing great ideas out there already.. That's what modeling is all about , i look forward to your take on the 4-link too Martin. Popcorn%20and%20drink%20emoticon_zpsnbkzs8ys

Thanks guys, glad the disc brake idea is helpful ! I would glue them to thin plastic just to keep them flat tho ! Bit of progress, axle was smoothed and i used the optional leaf spring hangers from the kit as mounts for the 4 bar. The tyres rest on the inner arches so i cant go any lower, but it does give the car a slight rake which looks cool ! Its so low i had to thin down the prop at one end so it matched up with the axle.... Quick mock up, just resting in place. Im adding shorter bars which will hold the hydraulic rams, just working out where they can go !
Oh and im cutting the gas tank out too, and plating it over with card...

Nice work on that rear end Martin...
If you want lower, you could move the inner arches inward and upward pretty easily mate, Just scribe them out, and sit them on top of the chassis rail, its pretty easy.

Thanks Leon, and trust you to think of a way of lowering it more Dale ! ! Thanks bud but the axle rests on the chassis, the tyres rest on the inner arches and the prop was trimmed to fit ! It's so much more work and it can only go a few more mms before the exhaust will drag on the floor ! ! When you see it on all four wheels it's pretty slammed, I'm quite happy with it thanks !

Thanks Deano... Ive not stopped on this, its all painted up now and the rear was almost ready to go in, then i decided to add hydraulics ! Also still cutting out the gas tank which is a pain ! Quick pic but will add another when its all together....

Dale, Joe, thanks guys ! Finally got the rear end complete, and hacked off the fuel tank ! I`ll cover this up later, possibly with a diffuser... So the wheels are setting in place, but when its dry i`ll post up pics of it the right way up so you can check the all important stance ! Dont need shocks as the hydraulics would have accumulators, but you think i need a panhard rod ?
So, more soon, be able to start the exhaust next !

Post by DeeCee on Jun 3, 2018 14:08:24 GMT -7
As your not shy with details, i would go with a panhard rod mate, it will tie the whole rear end in perfectly. Which, by the way, is really nicely done !!

Quick pics of it up on wheels, not gluing the front ones on now till the bodys in place for good, as it pulls the front wheels off adding and removing the bodywork ! !
