I very nearly went for the same kit as deecee but this kit was on top of it in the pile. Its the tamiya jaguar mk2 but I plan to give it a much sleeker roofline and lose 2 of the doors and a fair bit of the chrome. The engine will be stock, there was a rason these were the getaway car of the 60s and 70s before the transit van came along. From the side view it has the look but really needs a healthy chop, and I'm pretty sure I can get the rockers on the ground too. The wheels on it are from a 58 cadillac with a set of tyres from the parts box. I dont think I'm going to go for full skirts on this one, but will reshape the openings on the kit ones. Paint will be black and shiny At the rear the number plate mount is going bye bye along with the stock lights to give a more flowing shape. I am also going to get rid of the rear bumper for more of a mercury style roll pan. At the front I am losing the lights from the top of the fenders and the small lights on the lower front fenders but will be keeping the 2 sets of larger lights and the grille so it still screams that its a jag. For the front bumper I plan on doing a lot of reshaping to the stock bumper as I like the centre dip for the grille but want a more rounded profile to match the reat of the car. If I had the racing version of this kit it would save a bit of work but since I dont its out with the bondo.

NICE choice mate, and with the chop and drop you plan, it could be the "English Merc" .

Got a load done on the chassis last night but still need to get the back down some more. This is with the back lowered but the front still stock. and this is where it will sit eventually This is the rear suspension with one side modified, though I went back and filled a small section out near the mountings to get it a little lower for the front I raised up the lower spindle mounts and will be doing the same to the upper mounts. I now need to cut the rear wheels arch tops to get the rear down where I want it, but the front is just barely off the floor so that'll do for it. And I made a start on the bodywork. I filled the rear bumper space with some styrene strip that was luckily the size I needed, and will be adding a similar strip of thinner styrene on top of this on the rear to build up my rear pan. I think I might also flip the rear window upside down to save chopping it about and to give a nice profile to the side view, and improve the flow

I've spent a couple of days mostly just looking at the roof on this. I wanted to be sure I got the shape right in my head before I cut the roof off. This morning the time came to grab the saw and get chopping. I've taken about 3mm out of the front pillars and cut the rear pillars alont the bottom of the chrome moulding on the roof edges, and completely removed the rear window from the roof so I can flip it 180 degrees. There's still a load more to do until it sits how I want it but the last pics gives a rough idea of the roofline I want. The bottom edge of the rear window surround will be flush to the trunk area once I get all the holes filled and the roof centred so hopefully you can see where its heading the rear window in stock position before flipping Arough idea of how it will look, though the rear will be lower

Well this morning I went to glue the roof down and found I had stuffed up yesterday when I sanded it to fit. I sanded the wrong edge of the window parts to fit the rear, and didn't notice until this morning after I had filled the gaps. oh_jeez-1018_zpskf8ctjic So it was out with the saw and files and cut it up again. Look at those huge gaps before I cut it apart again, so after cutting again it was back where I started but missing a lot of the plastic I intended to reshape And after sanding the correct edge this time I got it where I wanted, but due to the sanding the gaps were still there, so I cut some slivers of plastic and glued these in to fill the gaps. Its not pretty but a lot of sanding and filler work and she should be sweet Its still a 3mm chop at the front but due to my mistakes the rear is now nearer to 5mm. I also made a start on the front end mods and here you can see one side smoothed out a bit and the other barely started

Been messing with the filler this morning, it's starting to take shape. I'm working on the lower body first and will be masking it off when I do the roof to save messing up the body lines. I reckon another layer will be needed on the roof. and I see from the pic that the rear pan needs lot more shaping to level it out, it looked ok to the eye but the camera never lies, lol

Cheers guys, well I got a bit bored with filler yesterday so got the engine mostly done. I havent added the exhaust yet as its getting done with the molotowe pens so will be near the last thing done so I can handle it without messing up the shine. The same colour is being used for the interior. the distributor is not the kit one, it decided to go for a short flight into a pile of open kits when i had it in tweezers ready to get glued and finding it was a big fail, lol

I got a third layer of filler on last night and while it was drying I needed something to do. After looking at the kit bumper I decided it would be simpler to modify a vw van rear bumper than to play about with the kit one. I wanted to keep the indent under the grille as it's a nice feature on the jag so I started by shaping this before I cut up the bumper. I cut out the over riders and a little extra on each side until it was the right width, then this morning after the glue had set I gently heated the centre to get the right profile for the front of the car. A little wet and dry later and it'll be ready for chroming and hopefully will look unmodified. I would have loved to find a daimler 250 bumper (same body but it has a baby 2.5 ltr hemi) to fit but they just aren't available.

Nice recovery on that roof fit Les. Wow man. That looks like it was a lot of work. It was mate, and I've since had to fix the front again as its very thin and keeps breaking. Hopefully this time it wont as I had to add some reinforcing to the back. I'll be sanding it down just before paint as its ugly and can be seen from the side but it is what it is.

Its looking like I'm not going to finish in time. My flat is too cold for my filler to set in the usual time so its taking 2/3 days to go off (usually takes 20 mins) I'll keep plodding away though

I sledded one of these about 20 years ago, it got tamiya mustang 5 spokes and brush painted but this one I want to do properly, it wont be finished in time though but its my own fault for choosing black paint. I haven't even started the interior yet and it needs a lot doing to it

I'm out guys, my mums been in hospital so I'm out at hers to look after her. Combined with the filler problems there's no chance of finishing on time. I wont be starting any thing else until this is finished though and I have another job interview on thursday (the last interview I got soaked by a bus just as I got there so arrived half covered in mud)
