This is my 1994 Chevy Silverado. When I got it , it had some aluminum wheels on it (that were EXACTLY like the ones on the truck in the background in the parking space down from mine) but I liked the Rallye wheels of yesterday a lot so I procured a set of those and had 'em painted a chocolate brown and cleared by a friend of mine in a body shop. The results were perfect to me.
The mileage on this ol' dog.........................it's just getting ready to pass the 388,000 mile marker on the odometer!! I've driven it with the stock LO5 350 cid small block for as long as I've had it but it's really showing it's age these days. When it was new the power output was at a whopping 200 horsepower. These engines stop developing power at around 3200 rpms. . As of these days I'd be hard pressed to get 150 horse power out of it with the mileage that it has. Here's a photo shot of the engine as of now. I know.............don't laugh too hard at the air cleaner lid turned upside down. You've gotta get all you can with this thing ya know.
I was kicking around rebuilding this 350 and started watching the price tag go up and up and UP. At that point I started looking around and found the power range I was looking for at a price that I could afford. I found a long block 383 cid stroker motor online that generates 370 horsepower and 430 ft lbs of torque for just under $3000. Now that...................I can do. I started rounding up all the parts to finish this puppy up today. You know, stuff like a water pump, new distributor, plugs, wires....etc. I should be ready to order this bad boy in the next couple of weeks. I may do a WIP here....who knows? lol
The 383 small block Chevy I'm looking at:

Man..................I guess I didn't finish letting you guys know part of the reason that I was gone for 4 months at the last part of 2017. I did, in fact , finish this project but I didn't purchase the engine through Raptor engines. Those were 383's alright but they still had the same junk TBI heads on them. Bummer.
So I went with an engine builder out of Spring, Tx. This 383 has got the Vortec heads, a decent cam (114 degree LSA with a duration of 210 degrees on intake/ 220 on exhaust and a .500" lift) 9.2:1 compression , and a 4 barrel carbureted intake. I retained the throttle body fuel injection and went with a throttle body bored out to 50mm that flows 680 cfm over the stock 420 cfm and used 454 TBI fuel injectors rated at 82 lbs. A bit overkill on the fuel injectors and I may switch back to the 350 "cop car" TBI injectors, of course there's the usual stuff like shorty headers and 2-1/2" exhaust all the way out, K&N air cleaner housing (I just had to add a "383" decal onto it as well ) and a completely rebuilt (by my transmission technician in my shop) 4L60 -4spd transmission with a 2000rpm stall converter and shift kit. All said and told it's putting out around 400 horsepower which is a lot more than the 150 hp that I started out with and the redline went from 3200 rpm to 5200 rpm which aint all that high but it's all the stock computer can handle. A custom performance chip programmed by Ed at TBI Chips topped it all off. After I broke it all in (1000 miles) I couldn't wait to give it a go under full throttle. It accelerated beautifully and nearly ripped my dang head off when it shifted into second gear. All in all it's a lot of fun and I left the outside appearance of the truck untouched except for a small and subtle "383" badge on each front fender.
Difference between stock and bored throttle bodies:
Had to do something about those yellow headlamps as well so I replaced all the lights up front with clear pieces.

Well....this is the third year I've had the 383 power plant in the truck and I just felt like upping my game a little for it. Looks like "Project 454" is in the works and just got real since the engine was delivered to my garage just this morning for Christmas. We'll see how this all goes. Already got a Holley 850 Double Pumper Spread Bore carburetor coming for it. I'll be tearing this one down and checking all the internals out and freshening everything up. Got a set of Aluminum Heads in the works with 2.25" intake valves, nasty cam selected and a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake in the plans. Now sitting on my garage floor:

I'm really stoked about getting this project underway. Lotsa research and lots of things yet to do. It'll be a year or so till I can get this thing done. Meanwhile......I installed a set of 4.10 gears in 'er today.
