I really like the whole idea behind this Mike as I'm a big Pro Street fan. You could put Revell's 429 Boss in there ya know.

Thanks guys! I know I could go bigger on the engine and I have the bigger engine from the AMT '73 Cougar to use, but I'm liking the Shelby GT350 289 CID for this build. I shortened the ends of the rear axle and the wheels and tires fit nicely, but I'm wondering if I should keep this rear axle or look for something a little more modern and perhaps lower the rear a little more. More to come...

If there's room to lower it, a little more wouldn't hurt but it looks good as it is too.

Looking real nice, rims really suit the build. I would lower it a little more if you can by removing the diff from the springs and install some flat styrene for lowering blocks.

The one thing I would like to avoid is the use of any lowering blocks. I doesn't seem to be "professional" to me. I want a more purpose built type of suspension instead of one that was hacked together in the back yard.

It's not as hard as it looks, and will give you that pro touring styling. I've started doing them on most of my builds now.

A four link suspension is something I am considering. I'm also trying to decide on a front suspension as well since the current setup is too wide for my wheels and tires and I don't have anything narrower to fit under the fenders.

Front sounds awkward, but the lower you can go the better !! How about a modern engine, twin turbo maybe ? ?

I don't have a modern engine to spare for this kit, so I'm going old school with a Ford GT350 289. I also need the lower sump oil pan for this build. I'm thinking of narrowing and reshaping the front of the frame a bit. I'll play with it some during my Saturday Playdate with some of my fellow Club members.

There have been some changes in the past month. A Classic Plastic Model Club member gave me a sprue of parts from the Revell '41 Willy's after we had been discussing the Studebaker. I got a sprue with the chassis, front and rear suspensions, and steering components. Then as I was sizing the chassis, I noticed the two floor humps that would interfere with the chassis. My Dremel was more than happy to remove them. I'm going to have to extend the chassis to fit the the wheelbase and the body. I decided where to cut the chassis so it can be extended and I will have to build a floor and trunk. More to come...

Thanks DeeCee! The Stude will have a nice 4-link rear suspension and a narrower front end to fit the wide front wheels and tires. I had considered a big block, but the small block Ford will fit the bill better!

I had lost interest in this kit and boxed it up and put it away. My friend Barry Fadden had given me this kit and he had passed away two weeks ago unexpectedly. I decided to pull this kit back out and finish it for him. Thank you Barry! I sat down this afternoon and started with the '53 Studebaker again. I assembled the kit motor which I'll try to hot rod with a different carb, air cleaner and headers. I created a new frame using parts of the frame from a '41 Willys hot rod and some Evergreen styrene. A mockup with the engine and the interior on the new frame. I cut out part of the bottom of the interior and will fill those holes with sheet styrene to create a flat bottom. More Studebaker to come...

This kit was given to me by Barry Fadden, a fellow member of the Classic Plastic Model Club. He had built a simuliar model and I really like it. This Studebaker will be a little different from his with my own touches on it. I had boxed it up and put it away, but with his passing two weeks ago, I have decided to finish it in his memory. Thank you Barry! I sat down this afternoon and started with the '53 Studebaker again. I assembled the kit motor which I'll try to hot rod with a different carb, air cleaner and headers. I sanded the holes with flat edges and then I cut out 4 patches of 0.0200 styrene sheet and filled the holes with the patches and some Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. When thi shas dried, I'll spread some Mr. Dissolved Putty around the edges and so some sanding to get this flat. I drilled out my spark plug holes and mocked up my last Parts By Parks distributor. Time to get more distributors! More Studebaker to come...

I have a picture of my friend Larry standing next to a Studebaker and I had noticed that the engine in this car has down draft Weber carbs. I know I have those carbs and I found them in the AMT '63 Cobra. I'll widen the intake manifold and add the Webers! I found these exhaust manifolds in the '56 Ford Victoria and they are as close to headers that I can find in my stash. More Studebaker to come...

This will be unique and cool when it's done.

Thanks Mark and leon! I made a wider intake manifold for the Studebaker with a notch in the back for a distributor. The engine is almost complete save for the ignition coil and painting the transmission. More Studebaker to come...
