Ok folks. I've got my next automotive build lined up after I get through with "The Camaro Restoration Project". I've been wanting to do a 460 Big Block Ford powered Fox Body Mustang for a while now. Initially I wanted to do the 1990 Model LX but now that I've acquired an older Fox Bodied car that just looked too cool to pass up I think I'll go with this one. I've already got the wheels and tires to make all this happen so here's where we're at: and I've got a Big Block Ford Resin kit (a 572 cid engine but I'll be labeling it as a "460" cid) It's already got an automatic transmission behind it so that's a plus. I didn't like the carburetor that was on top of it so we'll go with an 800cfm double pumper carburetor for the fuel induction side of things (shown below) Mock ups: (large Goodyear lettering will be removed from the rear tires. Just looks too ridiculous the way it is and will be tucking the rear tires a tad bit more inward to keep from sticking out too far......don't wanna go too 80's on this you know.. ) and the decals as laid out on the computer screen. Will be going with "GT460" on the lower rocker striping like the old GT350's and 500's used to be. I couldn't resist the totally obnoxious rear window decal (I'll be using the lesser obnoxious of the two decals though. I can't see putting that BIG one in the rear window.lol) and the obnoxious license plates as well. Will be starting shortly...................stay tuned.............

Thanks fellas. Already hit a snag with the chassis not having deep enough wheel wells in the rear but I forgot that I bought a pro street chassis for the Revell coupe that I've got in the stash. The front part of it is pretty much unusable but from about the front floor pan area back is fine. Let the cutting and sanding begin!!!!!!

Wait a minute!.....you mean I don't HAVE to build it like the instructions say?? lol I love the creativity we have. Some of you more than me obviously but, we have the ideas to build anything any way.
Joe, sounds like a usual task for you. Can't wait to see this all come together.

First off , thanks for the comments Joel. Secondly, you are right about the creative bunch that we've got and it's a friendly bunch at that.
You're also right about the usual and customary for me. I can't leave well enough alone with any kit and often say to myself during any given point of a build that I should just try one Box Stock build. lololol. I've only semi-done that here once and even that one had some modifications done to it with the OOB Volkswagon Bus. It's actually good that I build as slow as I do because I don't have any display space really. lololol

Thanks Steve and Jason!
Going to shake things up a bit in the order that I do things as I'm going to build the engine first this time. I've been holding off on that part of the build until a later stage with the last few builds in order to get all the theory right but this time I've still got a couple of items to pick up with one of those being another set of aluminum wheels with five lugs instead of four. The four luggers were supposed to be used on my 1990 LX 5.0 Mustang build. I'll be having the same offset for the rear wheels and will be using the 15x3-1/2" wheels up front and all. I've gotta make the switch due to the fact that I just don't know of many four lug rear axles holding up to a 460. (yeah I know, you'd think I was building a real car or something!! lol).
One of these days I hope to be building a 1:1 scale 460 powered Fox Body. I've seen whats involved and it aint that bad. Stock hood'll close right over one .....and that's no s#*@!
The layout of the box stock kit which I forgot to post in the intro to this thread.
As usual I'm going to TRY to keep this thing fairly simple but you know how that goes.
As for the resin engine. I'm already kind of niffed at it so far. There was no oil pan in the package!!! That right there tiks me off because I PAYED for a complete motor. I'm over it as I had one in the stash and can work through it but dangit man! Gimme what I pay for. I mean..........c'mon!! Secondly look at the photo below:
The cylinder heads were installed upside down and this is on the advertised picture. See how that intake manifold fits snuggly against the heads on both sides and the engine block at the front of the intake manifold? Yeah, well when the heads are installed CORRECTLY, meaning turned the freak over, 1.) the intake doesn't fit that well at all, and 2.) the cylinder heads are too wide for the engine block deck. Good Lord people!!! Makes you wanna do that "Three Stooges Slap" to a guy ya know? The solution? I cut a piece of black plastic styrene from Evergreen the perfect size of the intake manifold area and installed it on top and sanded the sides to increase the entire deck area to allow the cylinder heads to fit perfectly on the deck.
The layout before everything gets test fitted in place and I'll be figuring out how I'm going to fix the front of that oil pan:
and the trial fit with everything lining up. Now I can proceed with removing the oil pan, stripping the chrome and black basing the entire assy. Here's how it's supposed to look folks.
Was thinking of going a little wild with the engine in terms of paint and theme choice.

Nice save though Joe, pitty about having to do all that stuff to a supposed complete engine.. I LOVE that engine color scheme too mate, it screams at you. !!

I've never had a problem out of BNL resins before. Maybe because it was third party was why there was a problem. icon_hmm_zps07rcoppf

I have bought quite BNL engines and they are usually pretty decent engines. Not good you having problems with this one.

I started black basing the engine this morning after sorting through some more fit issues. I had to end up removing the L/H cylinder head, cleaned up the mating surfaces for a better, more flush fit and repositioned it slightly. Any how I got 'er back together and after cleaning it all up in a bath of cool water and mild detergent to get rid of all the molding agents I shot it with a coat of flat black. I'm also building that engine stand from the AMT Pro Stock Nova kit to go with my diorama so it looks like I'll be building this engine up on a stand. Still gotta get the detail painting done on the stand so I guess we'll be building an engine and a stand together.

I took a step backwards this morning as I had to dip the whole thing in brake fluid. I tried an application of flourescent green over the black base and the result was a green that was almost Forest Green in appearance so I got rid of the black basing on this engine and went with a gray primer for a base THEN I applied the green. I also got done with the engine stand this morning by picking out all the details and adding a couple of decals.

Looks like I'm going to go back to square one with this engine. Folks I'm just not "feelin' it". Outside of the intake manifold and the rocker covers I'm about ready to scrap this engine and go with another manufacturer for a big block engine. Freekin' bubbles and sinkholes everywhere on the block. I tried to overlook it but just simply cannot. I've done a little research and have come up with either the Revell Torino GT or the AMT 4x4 Ford pick up for the base engine. I also have a problem with the oil pan. It should be a dual sump oil pan but I think I've got that one solved with a part right here at home in my stash. I'm also in an email exchange with Steven Zimmerman to acquire some 5 lug Weld Draglites instead of the 4 luggers that I've got. No worries.........I'll get what I want in the end. For now I'm switching back to the Auto Garage build to keep busy at the bench.
