I was doing a search for thin plastic sheeting and this was one of the items that popped up. I was wondering if anyone has used this - www.coscraft.co.uk/thermoplastics/1167-thibra-275-x-170mm-sample-size.html - and what your thoughts on it were. I'm thinking it might be good for doing different trim patterns on seats but will have to wait until it arrives to see how well it works |

I'm getting a "404 not found" on the link, but any thin plastics have got to be good mate,
they all open up new ideas and possibilities .

So am I now, lol. It's plastic sheet you warm up with boiling water and can reshape with your hands. I was thinking I'd try warming it up and pressing patterns into the sheets to use on seats. I fancy doing diamond shapes on the lexus seats if it works, sort of like the seats in a bentley.

Well the thermoplastic sheet arrived a few minutes ago. So far I have to say I am impressed with how easy it is to use. This is what it looks like when you get it.  And after 2 or 3 minutes in boiling water it gets soft enough to shape with your hands, until it's sort of a putty softness. I took it out of the water and laid it on top of a piece of mesh and used a silicon pastry roller to press the patern into it, and ended up with this  It opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the trim on seats. All you need is a little of this stuff and something with the reverse of the pattern you want to press it onto. It does get a little flakey/powdery after drying but since you wouldn't be handling it too much I dont think it will be a problem. |
