This was a hideous built up I bought. The guy had all sorts of stuff glued to the body and the suspension on the chassis was falling apart. I decided to goof around with an idea I had floating around in my head thanks much to Street Outlaws. I began by taking the rear suspension or what was left of it off, cut out the gas tank and surounding plastic, and removing all mounting bosses and points for the stock suspension. I got some Evegreen rectangular rod and started making my own narrowed frame section. Once I figured out where it was going I started shaping the pieces to install. I then made pieces of plastic sheet close to exact size and installed them. Next was to trim all the extra material out of the chassis I did not want, shape and sand all of it down. Next was to take the broken axle housing and make and replace the axle tubes. Then I designed and made my own trailing arms, drilled them out to slide on the axle tubes and drilled and pinned them in front to mount on the frame and drilled and pinned the backs of them for the shocks. I managed to reuse the original coil springs and shocks to complete the rear suspension. Once everything was painted up I cobbled it all together. Added parts box wheels and tires. I sanded the daylights out of the body and tried to get the nose to mount but It still is pretty bad. There was about a tube of glue on each side holding the nose section on and the glue messed up the nose section and the body. Plans are to replace the body with another. I thought about making it just like the El Camino on Street Outlaws but would rather build it my way and in the color I want. Just another resto in progress.
Day one.
And so it begins,
And now,
