About 10 years ago a guy at work gave me 3 kits he had bought for his kids. All three had been started to some extent. Two were write off glue bombs (the engine and interior in my '60 Chevy pickup came from one) the 3rd was this one. It has sat in a closet since I got it so the box is really dusty! Some very sloppy brush painting had been done, the door was very sloppily cut out and some minor assembly had been done but it is not beyond hope. Gonna take some work though. Not sure what the plan was with that front seat. Needs to come apart and be completely primed and repainted. Door will have to be open since I am NOT going to try to fix that gap Chassis is already self destructing so that will be easy to fix. Not sure what they even used as glue. Blower has some light damage to the plating but no glue visible. Well that wasn't to bad. I only tore it up where it can't be seen. Decals are already on the dash so I will try to work around them

I've been waiting to see this one scoot on over here Tony. A very good build and just so you'll know....I voted for this one in the contest. Such a great build man.
And this kit was GIVEN to you??!! These things go for a pretty penny nowadays.......heck .....even 10 years ago they were fetching a premium sell price.

He didn't know what they were but I said I would take them for parts if nothing else. Was very excited to see the Interceptor until I opened the box and saw what had been done to it. Threw it in the closet and it just sat there. Was MSC that made me get it out since I wanted to work through some shelf of doom residents. One of the others was the Monogram Monte Carlo kit that was the donor for the seats and engine that went into my '60 Chevy restomod build. Probably use the chassis and body for a stripped out wreck some day The third was a Revell Thunderbird of some undetermined age (late eighties maybe?) that is complete and untouched. I have no clue what I will do with that.

LOVED MAD MAX !! Watched it so many times, even got kicked out of the cinema the first time as it was rated "R"....
A local friend built a replica of the Interceptor from the forst Mad Max release, it looked awesome in the rear view mirror on a cruise thats for sure.....
Definitely looking forward to what you do with that kit mate.

I do love me an interceptor. Keen to see the progress. Allow me to leave you some inspiration... Very nice. I like what you did with the front end to make it a bit more Mad Max 2 appropriate. The first issue of the kit (the one I have) was based on the restored actual movie car and as such is a bit off from how it was seen in either Max 1 or 2 since they had to compromise to make it road legal. In the kit this is mostly reflected in that the car had full door panels, no roll cage and a mostly intact front end. They changed most of those items for the second issue so it is closer to the Max 2 version. This is what they modeled: This is how it looked in Max 2 (exactly like you did it). Mine will be altered enough from the kit to be someplace between the two so I just call it the between 1 and 2 version.

The angle the took the picture at was perfect.

Well I am pretty sure I now know why it was abandoned. Not sure what I am going to do about this mess much less add detail! Looking at that I thought it would be a simple glue back together When I checked the fit of the windshield I discovered there is actually about an 1/8th of an inch missing. Think they used a hacksaw blade or dull utility knife to open it up. Good thing it will be dirty! I have decided to just hinge the door and repaired the damage to an acceptable level. A pillar has an insert and open rear door opening filled in. The solid stowage rack and lack of a roll cage were issues and I could not find any clear pictures of what should be there. One of the guys on another site told me there was an updated re release of the kit so I pulled up the instructions and BINGO almost a blue print of what I needed.

This kit is my all time most wanted. You can easily find them but for way too much money. Great to see one of these worked up.

Goodbye big block of stuff. Frame looks chunky in the pictures but once black will almost disappear in the interior. Chopped off the geometric shapes posing as gear and split them up. Couple of rolled up "blankets" and Calling this busy enough based on the few pics of the interior out there and the upgraded kit instructions. Almost gave up on the door a few times and I amend my original statement of thinking they used a hack saw to open it to they had to have used a Skill saw! Still working on the greeblies for "detail" but I do have a decent fitting and functioning door. It would not pass muster on a shiny show car but will do just fine on this beat up old girl. Used some hinges off a junked kit and a piece of tube. Just tacked on here and gaps will get filled once details done. Base for inner door pan since the kit came with full interior panels. Will add some stuff for interest but most will be hidden by pouches and manchette anyway.

Everything primed with black rattle can automotive primer. This will also be the main body colour. Gonna' be plenty sick of black even if I will be using 5 "different" shades/sheens of it. Door fit, now that I can actually see it, is pretty good. Not perfect but fine for this purpose since it will be open anyway. Chassis detail painting done. Most is molded solid but at least the paint gives some definition. Factory fresh at this point but won't be for long. Being an Aussie car I did not rust and rot it out. Ready for dirt and flat coat.

I've done a couple of black vehicles and know what you mean about being sick of black no matter how many shades of it is used. It's kind of like working with a blue USN WWII Pacific Theatre aircraft. LOTS of blues so one gets sick of blue as well. lol
Progress looks fantastic and am looking forward to the whole weathering process.

That really is a score Tony and nice save, as Joe said, they are stupid money now. Of all three kits to be glue bombed you're so lucky this one wasn't destroyed. I really like the detail you're putting into this, are you going to put the trigger mechanism underneath it too?
