That is looking really good. This is turning out to be another spectacular build. I'm jelly. I have to keep reminding myself these are half the scale of our cars when you detail them Joe, simply mind blowing to me Looking good Joe, should be another winner ! Good to know that even with aircraft your stuffing a bigger motor in it ! ! That engine looks amazing, beautifully weathering Thank you for all of the comments fellas. So the build process goes onward with test fitting the engine, firewall and ammo boxes into the fuselage and test fitting the lower wing into place to make sure everything is going to go together. Yeah.....I can work with this:

I can't get over the wing span on that high alt variant. Super cool.

I can't get over the wing span on that high alt variant. Super cool. I know right??!! I had to make some space in my display case for it next to the other two Fw190 variants that I've got. It's almost as wide as the A-8 variant that I've got in there. lol

I almost forgot to post a picture of the completed engine assembly with the mounting fixtures, 30mm cannon going through the engine with ammo boxes.

Really nice work going on here Joe! Thank you, Tim. I always love a good opened up build on one of these birds and there's plenty to show if it's done right.

What was really interesting about these engines was the fact that that the 30mm cannon barrel went through the middle of the engine and fired right through the center of the prop spinner. This.......along with the two 20mm cannon mounted in the wing root gave this aircraft a really nasty concentration of firepower. In the following photograph you'll see the arrows pointing to a small opening and is called out as "Mittlemotorkanone" which is where the barrel of the weapon went into. Also seen are the 4 bolt hole flanges where the cannon was mated to the engine.

Instrument panel is ready for install and is a 3D decal from Quinta Studios. These Quinta sets really are "all that".

How insane is that! "just a casual Cannon through the middle of the engine." Also, Gauge cluster looks excellent!

Thank you Tim and Bruce for the comments. So far it's been fairly smooth sailing with minor hiccups here and there. I just hope it stays that way. lol

I've been working like crazy on the fuselage and wing seams and FINALLY......after a few weeks......I've got some black primer on this bad boy. I've just got the fuselage set on the wings right now because I've still gotta install the interior and the engine before joining the two. After that I'll have some more seam filling and sanding work to do but wanted to minimize handling the whole thing with the interior and engine installed. From there will be a gray marble pattern and then we're off to color coats.

Nice work Joe. Why black primer? If you join it later and need to do work on the seams, won't that spoil the paint work?

Nice work Joe. Why black primer? If you join it later and need to do work on the seams, won't that spoil the paint work? Thank you Tim! I always start with black primer on my military aircraft 1.) because it's alway easier to go dark to lighter colors rather than the other way around and two....because there'll be a dark gray marble pattern put over this so as to create color modulation for a worn color coat. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: Black primer on Stuart's Spitfire at MSC. Followed by the gray marble pattern.... Marbling on the bottom of the bird: Then final color coating and gettiing ready for the Invasion Stripes. Do you see the subtle effect in the solid color?

That marble effect looks amazing, I'd imagine it would be relatively easy to do, but quite time consuming. Worth it in the end.

Yes, I see the effect coming through the various layers of paint. So, I'm guessing thin coats of thinned paint? And the million dollar question, what is the marbling representing? Is it part of the camouflage paint scheme, or just tonal variations/ weathering of the original paint. The randomness of it suggests it's not panel lines. So much to learn!!!!!!

It takes a little getting used to as it's not the normal primer prep. Yes, I see the effect coming through the various layers of paint. So, I'm guessing thin coats of thinned paint? Here we are with the marbling effect on mine now.....

I managed to re-acquire a complete kit that I've been wanting back in my stash for a while. I just got rid of this partial kit a couple of weeks ago but it was bits and pieces from previous builds. For those of you who do not know about Eduard's Royal Class kits......these things have it ALL right there in the box PLUS two complete kits. It's all there, PE, masks, decals for like 11 differerent aircraft and a piece of a fuselage from an Fw190.

Made some good progress by getting the engine and cockpit assembly installed into the fuselage. Believe me.......it's a harder process than it looks. LOTS of fit issues to be dealt with but I've got it under control now. We're down to the nitty gritty of getting the wings and fuselage joined to where minimal filler and sanding are involved.

Its at the desk, paint is in the drawer ready to go. Just not sure where I put the twin exhaust stacks and airhorns on it! Need to take the first step!

Need to take the first step! LOL!!! Those BMW 801 radial engines in those kits builds up nicely and Eduard includes a small jig to get the exhaust pipes to line up right if I remember correctly. What kit number is that?
