I've had this kit in and out of the cupboard and on the bench half a dozen times and then put it away again. This build is the perfect excuse to actually get my finger out and do it. This is the donor kit for the build, I'm using Auslowe's resin cab and conversion set to get it from a bonneted set up to cab over. When I ordered this transkit, I wanted the flat roof version so I could run the air ram tubes across the top of the cab. Not sure if I'll try it on this or not. The is actually a fairing that goes on top the sleeper roof for aerodynamics with high trailers. Not sure if I'll use that yet either. I've made up a bit of a story board for this so I have a quick reference for how things should look. That said, I'm going to leave the chassis long and put two big tanks down each side and run it as a road train prime mover where the longer wheelbase would give a better ride on outback roads. I think a gantry up behind the cab with storge boxes, a hydraulic tank, maybe the battery boxes will help give it a serious look. The red truck in the centre of the picture board doesn't have the 'party hat', it runs the duck tail spoiler instead, so I might go with that. Going with a bullbar from a Western Star kit - seems to fit perfectly. Thinking browm colours with gold or orange or yellow pinstripes. Round or square tanks? Thoughts? Going with spider hubs and rims .

Really keen to see what you do with either kit mate, bring it on!

Alright, things have started. Chassis is together and as per instructions, except for the kit rear suspension. I've removed the airbags, which are poorly done anyway, and gone with a spring suspension. It's an old casting and the resin is pretty brittle so I'm adding metal pins to the joints in ie the brake boosters. The trans kit battery boxes are on and I've replaced the plastic front axle with a white metal one to take the added weight of the resin. I'm also using the kit engine for this build even though it isn't correct for this truck. It's a V8 Cat motor, which ironically, in Oz at least, were a lower horsepower option than the 6 cylinder 15lt Cat motor that the 104 came out with. Since I'm using a resin cab, I won't display it with the cab tilted, the weight is too much. The other thing is that the tilting mechanisms would need to be modelled if any degree of accuracy is desired, a tooth pick holding the cab up is a little agricultural to say the least. The resin air cleaner barrel has been mounted on the rear of the engine using a bracket that came with the trans kit. This option means a gantry isn't required behind the cab as it is with the twin intake systems. Hopefully this means I'll be able to sneak my structure a little closer up behind the cab

nice work mate, is that a kfs front axle? I'm pretty sure it is, but don't quote me. I believe they have gone out of truck stuff these days, maybe even shut up shop?

I think the guy that originaly started it retired but they still have the website and he still masters parts for them but its mostly 1/24 military stuff these days. Its only a year since i got the axles and a couple of budd wheel sets. modellers resource has gone though which is disappointing but 3d printing took a lot of their tradeaway which is a shame as they had a few resin cabs for 60s euro trucks

That is a great start mate, good to see you hid from the missus long enough to get going on this build. Told her I was planning the structure she wants over her vegie garden . To pad it out, i said I should probably plan mum's first so I get the details right in my head before comitting to hers. I'm fairly certain she knows I'm pulling the wool but doesn't know I've already got it sorted and just keep slowly bringing out sketches etc

Got some detail painting done on the engine. Need to mask off the mount and air cleaner barrel and paint them in chassis colour. Dee Cee's radiator pipes look so much cooler, might give mine the upgrade!!

Slowly moving forward with this. Having 3 sets of instructions isn't helping. When I got the transkit it said it can be used with either cab over or conventional donor kits. What it didn't say is that the instructions are based on the cab overs instructions. So all the dimensions are based on features my kit doesn't have or are in another spot as well as the sequence of step numbers being different. So, first up was the front cab mounts. These mounted into the existing bonnet hinge points and had molded recesses in the resin cab floor. I could then lower the floor pan and work out where the rear cab mounts, exhaust mounts and air cleaner support went. I still have some squaring up to do but the basic positioning is sorted. I'm using rsin spider rims but with the tyres I'm using, the rims were too narrow and the tyres touched. I added some sheet styrene, cut it to shape and added it to the spacer before gluing the rims together.

Some great work going on here mate, looking real good, BUT ! INSTRUCTIONS ? With the amount of trucks you build and work on, i don't see why you need instructions..

With the end of June deadline fast approaching, progress isn't what I hoped it would be, but it is moving forward. The bar has been temporarily mounted, light tabs etc added and the sides of the bumper section redone. I thought I could do better than the resin grill supplied in the transkit. Next up was the frame for behind the cab. Due to the chassis being taken up with tanks, I'll mount a tool box, hydraulic tank and sleeper cab cooler on the frame across the chassis. The black brackets are from the Western Star Australian Kit (I think) shortened to keep the tank more centralised over the rack. Before you ask, the pencil is just a temporary spacer. I even added the recessed front panel on the Ice Pack unit and the rear venting. Basically, it is a diesel powered AC unit that you fire up when the truck is turned off while you are in the sleeper. Fairly certain it's not reverse cycle but most trucks do come with an inverter so you can run an electric blanket on the frosty nights!

DAMN that is looking awesome mate, love that grill, and especially the 1 meter matters pencil hanging out the side for the cyclists... don't worry about the dead line either, it gets done when it's done mate.. Keep pushing those boundaries too, that think is looking amazing..
