Well as you know I got myself a 3d printer a few months ago and I'm getting the hang of it now. I've also been assembling files to print my own limited edition kits. As you will expect I'm going to be doing vw group cars. The first items available will be engine bay kits for the non revell golf kits. I can do the 16v, 2 versions of the vr6 and the r32 engine so nothing stock. The kits I will be making I would describe as curbside plus meaning they have engines and interiors but no chassis detail. I'm working on a vw saveiro pick up first and i think a liberty walk audi a5 will be after that. Are there any vws you would like to see? I may also do some type 3s that use tamiya bugs for the undies. These would include body, chassis and dash and the bug will provide the rest. It wouldn't be accurate for stock but it could look stock.

Very nice work Les! How long does it take to print an average size 1/25 body?

it depends on the body but these averaged about 18 hours and one of my printers is big enough i can do 3 or 4 at a time. An engine would take about 3 hours to print and you can print as many as you can fit onto the print plate in the same time. Some of these prints were just tests too and i can do them much nicer now. You can see on some of the prints that the rockers are mis-shaped. Thats because i had the bodies at too flat of angle so the first layers droop down. Printing at an angle stops this happening but it also means prints take longer. I've not taken pics of the many wheels and other parts either but theres quite a lot. Its been a helluva learning curve but i'm glad i stuck with it. I'm happy to print stuff for other folk too, and can print up to 1/16 cars or trucks. My biggest set back on the smaller printer was all down to a faulty usb stick and i spent months trying to figure it out before mistakenly using a different usb and it worked great so if you ever buy a 3d printer chuck out the usb that comes with it(after you copy all the manuals and instructions from it), it'll save you a lot of problems

I wish you lived closer I would be buying your parts.

Very cool. What's your pricing? I'd like to see a vw square back or a 411 I think they're called.

Very cool. What's your pricing? I'd like to see a vw square back or a 411 I think they're called. I'm not sure yet but i have the type 3 and 4s lined up to do something with. I'm thinking since there isn't any vw kits with the correct engines to do them so the tamiya bugs could be a donor. It wouldn't be accurate for stock on a close look but if the hoods shut who's going to know. It would also be a bit less work for me as I'd only have to draw the interior side panels and a dash. I have the body files for most vws already but its going to be a case of which would be popular and the amount of work to get them where i am happy with them. I would aim to do the type 3 and 4s so all of eaches body styles can be released at once.

I wish you lived closer I would be buying your parts. I could print them faster but I'm printing at 0.03mm layers so i get crisper details. If it was something like a vw van which isn't that detailed in real life i could probably print it in half the time

Well it turns out the cars i thought needed to be rescaled were actually correct. They just looked a bit off proportion wise to me but after a little digging it turns out they done use vw architecture, instead they use the architecture from audis under vw bodies which i was unaware off. With these being south american vws i have never actually seen one in the flesh and had assumed the pick ups were the same size as the vw caddy but they are a little larger on the early ones. I'm happy i figured this out as it was driving me mad trying to scale them to euro dimensions

Some might not work very well due to how their drawn out by the designers and some might come out very blocky instead of nicely curved but the resin is as easy as filler to knock down. Its pretty tough on razors saws though
