I've been working on a pair of 1970-1/2 Camaros for the last couple of months. I am almost finished with my Z/28 version and was just about to get started on the Baldwin Motion Camaro when I found out that a good friend of mine at work is going to retire in late November. He owns a 2017 Camaro "Fiftieth" Edition and I thought I'd build him a going away present. It's rare when I do this as I always tend to feel under the gun of a time frame in which to get a build finished in time. In any case, Here's the kit. I already know this; I'm going to have to address........if you guessed it....you're right....the ride height at the front of the car.

I like the look of these modern Camaro's mate, not very common down my way. there are 500 mustangs to every 1 Camaro.... when you can get a v8 Stang for $80k or a v8 Camaro for $150k, i see why.

I just bought this kit myself, an open box from eBay. I will definitely see what you think of it before I approach it. We love our 2010 Camaro Dale - you should get one! Ours is still my own version of a Transformer car. I should get her all polished up and take some more pictures. Got tons of chrome goodies on the engine, even have lights in the engine bay. Its not much, but we love her - she handled great when we did laps on the Texas Motor Speedway years ago, but now she still hibernates in the garage! Lol

This one's definitely out of my comfort zone. I'm used to anything from the 40's through around the 90's at the latest and that's pushin' it. I'm old school for sure.....kind of a "Brutus vs. Geeky" approach to hot rodding. Engine is pretty much finished up on this one aside from some minor touch ups. It's all OOB except for the AC Delco decal on the oil filter. Couldn't help myself....just had to add it.

Looks good, and I know how you feel about being old school! Just think, we have E vehicles to look forward to... ugh...

Thanks, you guys.
I'm definitely not a fan of electric vehicles at all but the push is headed that way unfortunately. We've been dabbling with this crap for over two decades......just enough to say we made the effort. Now the stupid EPA is involved. It'll come to pass this time I'm afraid. Gotta be careful how much I say, otherwise politics will start to enter the conversation. Can't have that. lol

The only chrome parts in the kit were the wheels and those aren't supposed to be chrome. They are more of a silver color with a contrasting darker color for the inlay areas of the wheel. I'm sure it's the manufacturer accommodating the masses who want to build the model "as is". No hit on AMT here but I had to make the corrections. The real wheel: So I went to work by stripping all of the chrome off of them and cleaning them up. Here they are finished up. One of the problems with silver is that any flash at all will show up in photos.....particularly when macro is used. In real life you've really gotta be looking to see it. I used Vallejo Silver for the wheels and shaded the darker areas with brushed on ground up black pastel as I just didn't feel comfortable painting the inlay areas. I then put a dot of chrome on the lugnuts of each wheel and used a toothpick to apply MM Silver enamel to the bowtie in the center of each wheel.

Looks like you nailed em! Did you brush the top silver on? Thanks Tom! No I airbrushed the silver base coat on and then dry brushed the darker color in ground up black pastel.

Getting this one to a lower stance has been a tricky ordeal but I'm making my way through it. I did some work on the rear suspension to get the stance mostly where I want it. Gonna play around with the front a little more to get a tad bit lower. A good test fit/ mock up later: One thing this kit has going for it is a completely detailed out undercarraige. Very high parts count (over 40 parts) and a great effort by AMT on replicating it.

Very nice work Joe! I like the color choice. Thanks Mike!! Well, I've finally got enough done on this bad boy to show some progress. To say that this is one of the better chassis builds I've built up would simply be an understatement. AMT did VERY well on this one. In looking at the reference photos that I had to work with, I knew I had my work cut out for me if was to replicate something with so many different shades of the same color as well as the aluminum & steel paneling that provided the base work for the chassis that included almost 50 parts by the time it was all said and done. Most of the parts were in the rear suspension. I'm in awe at the amount of detail that was provided. Getting everything to look non "Blase" was a trick in itself.

After a while away, I did manage to get the dash most of the way completed. Still have the steering wheel and column to go and then we're off to the seats. I managed to pick up a spare interior so I could make the painting masks for the seats and door trim so that's next up.

Door panels are done. One thing to note: The casual eye won't see it but .......the R/H door panel has the master switches for the windows and door locks. It would pass for a R/H drive car in part. lol Painting the inlay areas was a bit tricky but managed to get it done. Trim work and door handles were brought out using Vallejo Metal Colors Dark Aluminum for lack of anything better to paint them with. I also added the "Bose" logos on the speaker grilles.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the interior is now finished!!! The rough edges between the borders of the two tone seats is ALOT less noticeable in real life and is more the camera picking these up. I decided to go with decals from the Foose FD-100 kit for the light gray portion of the seats which resulted in a cleaner demarkation line than I could've done with paint. Masking on these irregular surfaces to achieve the same effect would've been dang near impossible. This interior was almost as difficult as the '67 Mustang interior that I just got through with a few months ago. LOTS of masking and LOTS of different shades of black with the details being picked out. Now..............moving on to the car body............
