Hi guys !
Ben away for awhile, so thought id try something out the box for me, a Nascar !
Recently i built a WW2 fighter plane, something i know nothing about but enjoyed it. Funny how i cant get inspired to touch anything ive started, but something totally different appeals to me ! Id recommend it as a way to get building again... Partly inspired by Pete building his nascar i got interested in them, and started my research ( i enjoy this bit! ) In the UK Nascar is non existant, and i couldnt even find a nascar kit anywhere to buy, so ordered this twin set from America in the end !
Soon found detailed pics of nascars hard to come by, but after a few weeks Ive got all the pics i need to get started !
Im building Dale Earnhardts car, the black Monte Carlo...
Hopefully going quite detailed with this, although detail parts are a bugger to find here . The transfers were also yellowing, folded and no good, so ive had to order replacements from the USA too ! Spent hours so far sanding, body is ready for primer ( with the boot cut open ) and ive made a start on the chassis. Ive also cut out the molded in window net, Ill make another out of, something ? ?
Heres the chassis so far, hopefully lots more soon !

The front part of the tube chassis was a bit chunky, so i cut it off ! Following reference pics Ive built my own from various tubing, hopefully a bit more accurate it took a time constantly check fitting with the body, but all Ok ! Should be primer time soon, when the weather here clears up !

Thanks Guys ! Been trying a new primer and it takes ages to dry... So i thought Id build the seat ! Again copying reference pictures Ive cut out openings in the seat for belts, added an extra panel for the head support and one where your feet go. Seat belts are made from ribbon with p/e buckles, padding is sandpaper and theres a few p/e nuts n bolts to finish it off. More soon, thanks for looking..

That looks great Martin! The sand paper along with the belts gives it a lot of realism. Nice work!

Thanks Mike !
Finally we have paint ! After priming, sanding and finally adding a top coat the chassis is painted. Not entirely satisfied as its too orangey, the 1:1 is a little more of a red/orange mix but its close enough i guess... Ive added a few details before the seat can go in, and theres a few more to go before the rest of the cage gets added too. These p/e nuts are doing my eyes in ! Heres a couple of pics, more soon !

Nice work on the chassis Martin. I know what you mean about those PE parts. Every time I use them they go flying out of my tweezers into nowhere land.

Thanks guys ! Bit more done, still waiting for some p/e parts from China to arrive so slow going at the moment ! Scratchbuilt floor mat has been screwed down, fire extinquisher with hold down straps and a couple more bars added to the cage. Also started the fuel cell, more p/e bolts and Im trying to recreate the panels each side, which are chrome card then detail added with a toothpick ! Might redo these as there a bit too shiny, even on a Nascar im trying to sneak in a bit more chrome ! ! More soon and thanks for looking...

Thankyou gents... Finally the interior is finished, cage was a real pain as i had to extend a couple of bars as it didnt fit together ! Electrical boxes and wiring was fun, and dash was fitted. I gave up with transfers so hand painted the dials, still need to gloss these ! Added the steering wheel button (its teeny) and wiring, rest of the cage, window supports, rear shelf, then there was those cooling tubes.. Didnt like the kit parts, but by chance i found a girls hair band and had an idea ! Added a brass tube inside it and i think it looks better than the kit part anyway ! On to suspension next ! Thanks for looking !

Whoops been a while since i updated this.. Made a start on the engine block to check it all fits ok, and carried on building this ! Dechromed the valve covers as these should be black, bit more p/e on the pulleys and started on those hose ends ! They are a pain but look cool so im happy so far.. Aftermarket distributor, cos im fed up drilling these things out ! Also been trying out various metaliser paints, you can polish the exhaust and they get shinier ! Loads more to go yet but thought id show you whats happening on the bench !

More awesome work Martin, those metaliser paints are cool, once they dry and harden, you can make them look like real metal.

You're really bringing alot to the table with these engine details Martin. I've been trying out metalizer paints as well. The latest and greatest for me was picking up a set of Vallejo Metalizer paints. They come in a set of four and from all I've read....are some of the best on the market. Dude....do I ever feel your pain on the drilling out distributors. I've recently discovered MAD distributors which work FANTASTIC. If you get a chance you should pick one of these distributor kits up. They look great and are super easy to work with. The Link: madmodeling.com/
