I can't remember the last time I started an aircraft model. Sheesh! What's it been now........five years?? Just haven't felt comfortable with my painting and weathering skills until the finish up of my Ar 234 last year. Additionally, automotive modeling has given me a new spin on airbrushing. Well....I guess it's about time to bust out with one huh? We'll be going with Tamiya's offering So..... let's dance.... shall we? Here's what I've got in the arsenal for this build...

Go Joe Go! I built this kit years ago and it won't disappoint you. This is one of my favorites as well. I was on the verge of jumping into an F-15C build but detoured to another car for now. Variety keeps us interested.

Thanks Leon. I've spent the last few days cutting resin parts from the casting blocks and cleaning everything up. The landing gear bay on this puppy looks intense.

Hi Joe. I assume you'll be doing the mottled camo on it. I'd like to see some progress pics on that process.

Hi Joe. I assume you'll be doing the mottled camo on it. I'd like to see some progress pics on that process. Yessir I will. I'll be building "White 3" that was assigned to JV44 during the final stages of the war. This is such a remarkably cool and sleek looking bird. Especially the U4 variant that had a 50mm cannon in the nose. Yeesh!!!! Cannon was HUGE:

Ok gang...I've been working on this aircraft all friggin' week now. I've been busy getting rid of the interior detail/ ribbing from the inside of both halves of the fuselage in order to fit the AM pieces in here. After accomplishing that and test fitting it's looking pretty good from about every angle so far. Details removed: The interior tub, side panels and rear wall of the gear bay fit well. I fitted the original rear wall in place to see how high it sat above the fuselage to ensure a proper wing fit to the fuselage. Here's the stock / OOB height: and the height with the Aires AM piece fitted in. Looks good from here: So.....I tried my luck with the wing test fit. I think I'm good here:

Been working on the other gear bay wall for the last few days and after finishing the painting process I decided to deepen the effects a little bit on both.

Thanks Mike and Pete! I'm slowly working my way through the cockpit. It's a little tricky to get to look just right without over doing it on the weathering. Still got a loooooooooooooong way to go in the detailing department here but this is the latest progress pic I have:

Awesome Joe! I had to catch up on this. You have been really moving lately. I think you lucked out with the fit of the Aires kit. They have some great detail but the fitment sometimes leads to um, FITS!...lol. All right it wasn't that funny, but you are succeeding here. I can't wait to see what you do with the camo.

Man the detail in this is eye popping. Are they all seperate parts or is it very careful painting of larger bits

This part is indeed pretty hectic but the Aires sets that I've worked with went into place fairly easy. I do know, however, from listening to other modelers (Like yourself) that this kind of thing does in fact happen. I've been fairly fortunate so far with these sets.

Man the detail in this is eye popping. Are they all seperate parts or is it very careful painting of larger bits Thanks Les. The seat, seat belts and rudder pedals and pivot are all separate parts. All the side console details so far are molded in but there are some levers and knobs that I need to install still. Today's instrument panel mock up. This.....is going to get intense as I'll also be painting and detailing the back of the gauges & wiring on the back of the instrument panel.
