Looking really good Mike.
Brings back memories.
My Road Runner was that same blue.

I have been reading about torque boxes for Mopars lately and the current issue of Scale Auto has an article about the torque boxes on the Revell '70 Charger R/T and how the Revell '68/'69 Chargers don't have them. I decided to see if I could make a set of torque boxes for my '68 Charger R/T. I looked (actually stared) at the picture in Scale Auto of a '70 Charger R/T for a while and tried to design one out of .020" sheet styrene. Some cutting here, clipping there and a little bending and I think I have the beginnings of a torque box. What do you guys think? More Charger to come...

Nice work Mike. A little paint and you have another healthy dose of realism. My personal opinion is that "staring is the key to good modelling".

Thanks Mark! Staring is also another way to other ideas and modifications!

More work done on the Charger today. I added the pie plate decal to the air cleaner after I painted the air cleaner. I cut the decal just above the Magnum lettering to help it snug down around the air cleaner. I painted the rear panel Tamiya X-18 Semi Gloss Black and trimmed the edges with my 1 mm Molotow Chrome Pen. I added the torque boxes and painted them with Tamiya TS-54 Light Metallic Blue and a small brush. More Charger to come...

I raided my wife's sewing box tonight for 4 pins. These pins have a flat, round and smooth head. I drilled 4 holes in the centerline of the front and rear fenders. I have been told that I am a brave sole for drilling into a freshly painted body. Thank you very much! I added a touch of Superglue to the hole on the inside of the fender and inserted the pins. I cut off the shaft of the pin and painted the heads with a drop of Tamiya Clear Orange and Clear Red paint. Now, I have round side markers for my '68 Charger R/T. They have a 3 dimensional look to them instead of a flat decal. More Charger to come...

Thanks Mark! I developed this procedure many years ago for adding some detail to a plain flat surface. I have since then used it on all my '68 Mopars that don't have this detail.

Progress is looking good Mike. I like the idea of the pin heads for the side marker lights.

Thanks Joe! This technique was developed years ago by me and it works on any 1968 Mopar except Chryslers which have square side markers.

I started to foil the Charger R/T today. I still have to foil the wheel opening mouldings, then I'll be done. More Charger R/T to come...

I added the white tail stripe to the '68 Charger. I removed the side markers, added the stripe and reinstalled the side markers. I need to cleanup around the side marker with some decal setting solution. Looks pretty straight to me. More Charger R/T to come...

I needed to add another coat of Tamiya TS-54 Light Metallic Blue to the hood, front and rear valance panels to match the body, but I had run out of paint. A trip to the local hobby shop got me another can of paint. The body has been touched up in prep for clearcoating with Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear. More Charger R/T to come...

Heya Mike. This is lookin' great so far!!! I'm really enjoying seeing this one come together. One very small thing that I did to help out the engine compartment was to drill a hole in the middle of the molded in upper shock retaining bolt in the top of the shock towers, cut a small section of wire and insert it into the drilled out holes to replicate the studs of the shocks. It's a small addition but it helps engine bay detail out ALOT. Just a friendly suggestion. Looking forward to more here. Here's what I'm talking about.

The body, interior and chassis are now one piece! I inserted the dome light, windows, and interior rear view mirror and joined them all together. I am getting to the point that I just want this one off the bench! More Charger R/T to come...
