hi all here's another update (still nowhere near where I'm upto now













I was asked on several of the ship forums I'm on how I did the wood effect so thought you may be interested.
this is what you need


you need to slap a thin coat of the lightest wood colour you are going to use (dosnt matter if its patchy, in fact it works better)(you need this undercoat as the pastels wont stick to bare plastic)



just drag the next darkest pastel randomly over the wood.


brush it in


now get your black pastel and dab wherever there would be stains from nails and stuff




brush once lightly across the grain



then brush with the grain




dont varnish it yet as it will just end up a muddy mess as the pastels all merge together spray with the hairspray once the hairspray is dry you can varnish it. the great thing with this method is (untill you hairspray it) if your not happy with it you can wash it off dry it and your ready to try again, you tell me any other method you can do that with.

That's some fine work my friend. I really like the wood grain effect and how the gold leaf sets it off.

It truly amazes me the amount of detail that can be put into these ships. The possibilities seem endless...........

hi all another error on this kit is the prow should have some carving here.

I've added some, not great but better than nothing








not moulded in the kit are the holes for the ropes for hauling up the gun ports so ive made a jig




which fits in the gun port thus

another error on this kit is the stern galleries should be open (this was very nerve wracking as i had to cut them out and still keep the carvings intact)

I need to make the cannon anchoring points and the shackles on the cannons, take some transformer wire


wind it round a cocktail stick


run your dremmel down it


lots of shackles and anchoring points








I know the guns are very shiney and new looking at the moment but trust me they wont.




I made a little jig to get the anchor points all the same distance apart and the same hight

Right after some good advice I may well get started back on this, I've just bought these 3 books

So hopefully after a good read the rigging won't be sooooo scarey.
