Thanks leon! I know a car collector who has an original '70 Superbird (not restored) in this color combo and he drives it every now and then.

I see that someone made a comment about vinyl tops on Plymouth Superbirds. All Plymouth Superbirds had vinyl tops. The back glass and the roof section around the back glass was modified so “the boys” could go high-speed oval racing. The original roof and back glass design actually caused a “lift” condition at high speeds causing the rear end to lighten and loose traction. The Plymouth was the base-line vehicle for Mopar so instead of doing the necessary body work after the roof/back glass change, they covered it up with a vinyl top. Now the upscale Dodge Daytonas were different as those same roof modifications received the necessary finishing body work where a vinyl top was not necessary and the car could have been gotten without a vinyl top, if desired.... I would question a 1:1 Superbird not “sporting” a vinyl top..... I have this Johan kit, factory sealed and can’t bring myself around to opening it....lol

I knew that the vinyl top was used to cover some sort of unfinished bodywork and now I know more! Thanks geardriven! Just so you know, that Johan Superbird does not have a vinyl top.

I sat down this morning and looked over the various parts of the Superbird that I painted and discovered that the rear wing didn't have much paint on the bottom of the wing. I repainted the rear wing top and bottom. The hood is looking good especially after I had detailed the hood pins and lanyards. The rear bumper is ready for some Alclad II Gloss Black and Chrome paint. More Superbird to come...

The plastic on this kit has gotten brittle over time. I was holding the body in my right hand and uing a pinvise in my left hand trying to open up the holes for the rear wing when I heard "snap" and the lower right rear fender broke. My heart just sank since I just painted the body several days prior. This Superbird wasn't a show contender to begin with and I had decided to let it sit on the shelf unfinished. But, I just had to finish it and I glued the lower fender back on and added a strip of styrene to the back for support and repainted the body. I added several coats of Model Master Ultra Gloss Clearcoat to the hood. Looks pretty good, but it will look much better when it is polished! More Superbird to come...

It happens to me as well. Just fix it and move on. It is not a show contender, just a shelf occupant. I foiled the Superbird this afternoon. Not exactly my best job, but it is done. I'll have to go back and clean it up some and touchup the vinyl roof. Decals are next! More Superbird to come...

Thanks Les! This rebuild have been a real troublemaker for me. Things going wrong and repeated assemblies. Part of me wants to chuck this model at the wall, but I don't do those kind of things.

I sat down at the bench this morning and started applying the Superbird decals. I hate trying to cut out the small decals, but they are worth it. More Superbird to come...

The Superbird is coming together. The rear bumper has been replated, but I'll add another coat or two of Alclad II to try and get a better shine. More Superbird to come...

Thanks Deano and leon! I have a friend who is a car collector and he has a '70 Superbird that bears quite the resemblance to my model. Or, is it the other way around? smileys-painting-009432_zps0b513ffb

I thought I had finished my Superbird yesterday and packed it for my Club meeting. When I unpacked the Superbird at the meeting, the rear spoiler had broken off in several places. My attempt at rejoining the spoiler produced a joint line that I didn't like. I traced out two pieces of .020 sheet styrene and glued them together. Now to sand and shape this into a spoiler. More Superbird to come...
