Was on the lookout for a 80s American car for a while, something to Lowrider !
But after a while i found nothing in the UK, and after checking the Import duty when importing one from the USA, i discovered i couldnt really afford it !
Theres also the 13" wires which i needed, the UK dosent stock them so id have to import those too, from Germany...
So i went on the lookout for something different, the lowrider idea is out the window for now, just something to show off and have fun with... I researched the various options and spare parts availability, and came up with a Mercedes ! !
Its a 1992 190E, 2.0 Auto with a lots of history from MB dealers, it was bought new by a footballer here in the UK and has always been garaged too....
So far its had new 17" wheels, new handbrake mechanism, new MOT, and the usual oil and air filters and coolant and oil changes etc.... I repainted the cover for the air cleaner too, this Mercedes style was known as the the Baby Benz at the time, so i got the model paint out and cartooned it !
Future plans include lowering.... and just enjoying it ! !

That looks pretty cool man. They are quite popular here in Australia, a lot of guys get Benz's of this era or older and airbag them, audio, etc.

Thanks guys, much appreciated ! And Stitch i can lower it around 45mm with these wheels on. I'm saving up for the H&R kit which has been recommended... The front is currently low due to the standard springs sagging after 26 years !! Might have to go to a lower profile tyre on the front too, it's currently got 215/45 R17 all round but I'll see how it goes after the suspension change !

Still h+r manufactured but 100mm+ drops

I like the art. I had a Fiero that I airbrushed realflames on the air filter cover one time. What kind of 80s car were you hunting?

Haha don't go telling me that Stitch I want to keep it drivable ! ! I've seen H&R do a 60mm drop but these will rub the arches. 45mm is still reasonably low with 17" wheels, and I can still get over speed bumps ! And spdyft i was looking for an 85 Olds Cutlass Supreme, but the cost of importing it, the wheels and possibly the hydraulics just added up too much !
Maybe in a few years time, if and when I sell the Benz !

Thought id give you a little update on the Baby BenZ !
Not a huge update but she still keeps me smilin .. I ordered these springs, 40mm lower too
Dosen`t sound too radical but when fitted it rubbed the front tyres on the arches on every bump. New 205/40 R17s on the front gave a bit more room. I have speed bumps around where i live, for miles around, and it just gets over them... slowly !
I cant imagine going any lower as i just couldnt drive it ... Its already ground down 3 exhaust hanger bolts and the sump is scratched too ... Anyway its now Slammed, front is lower than the back but i love it, heres a pic recently getting its MOT !

NICE!! Sometimes ride height makes all the difference in how a car/ truck looks. You nailed it with that look Martin.

Very cool Martin, same reason's for me only dropping the 300C 30MM, ya still got to be able to drive them. Not all places have nice smooth roads and no speed bumps.

Cool car Martin.
I really like it. The stance looks great.
However it would be too low for me though. If I hit the sump even once, I'd be brickin' it from then on and wouldn't feel comfortable driving it.
I would love a wagon version of one of those.

Mark it's not that bad really, the only time I've hit the sump is parking, half up on the kerb... I got to look underneath at the MOT and the silencer scrapes and the exhaust hanger bolts. The exhaust will be replaced soon so I'm hoping to fit it up closer to the floor. Must admit it would get annoying if it was used every day though.. I did panic at the weekend, driving along and it just started scraping constantly, a real loud scrape ! I was a bit worried, thought maybe the exhaust had snapped ? But it turned out I'd caught a coke can underneath and dragged it down the street .. All good fun eh
