.
I'm using this kit to build the truck I got my semi trailer license in. It was dad's first new truck in about 7 or 8 years and was unbelievable after years of 2nd & 3rd hand trucks.
This is it dolled up for the town Christmas parade back in the late 80's. It got a bit more pinstriping, driving lights etc before we were done with it.
The real truck is a bogie drive but without any accurate reference photos of the truck, I decided to use the generic Italeri suspension from 1 of their 'American trucks.
Seemed like a good idea at the time without having to buy a resin bogie drive set up from somewhere, until I realised that the chassis rails at the back were different to the Volvo ones at the front. It was too complex to make a new set and I wanted to keep all the mounting points on each piece of chassis so I just had to cut, shut and add as I went.
A coat of primer and the addition of the tank brackets have helped to hide most of the butchering and hopefully more will be hidden when the wheels and guards go on.
Using Auslowe's resin 6 spoke rims and hubs to match the original.
The rims turned out to be a little duller than I had hoped but this is from the pre bling era. She was always kept clean, tidy and serviced but was never a show pony. We carted bricks, bagged cement and concrete blocks out of Sydney and other places and general when we could get it down ( normally empty beer kegs).
