After a bit of thought I've decided to build this. I'm going to use the ardun engine from the revell f1 truck and a set of icemans cadillac wheel trims that I've had for a while and really want to use. I dont think I'll use the custom front and rear ends as they aren't to my taste but the front may find itself on a merc in the future. As far as colour it may be dark red/burgandy or black
NICE !!!! A great choice mate, and yes, that custom front would look perfect on a Merc or even a pick up. Popcorn%20and%20drink%20emoticon_zpsnbkzs8ys
EDIT; Reading the box top, wow, there are a LOT of options, which means lots of cool extra parts for other projects.
The box is pretty stuffed with parts, and I have a lot of the custom options from other trophy kits too so plenty to choose from. The hardest choice is carson top or victoria hardtop but either way it will be chopped and low
That's a good choice Les. I don't think I have seen this one before.
I think it might be a late 60s/early 70s kit Dennis, the box is much stronger than any other kits I have apart from the same series 57 chevy(but it was a bad buy cos the kit was near scrap and sprayed white with gloss house paint to sell)
Yes, great choice!! That issue still had the Carson top, I have 2 of the later issues and they don't have it anymore. (Bummer, to me!) The extra custom goodies fit nicely on the AMT '49 Ford also. I will be watching this build, and maybe I am up to being able to do a build thread of my own now. That's pretty exciting to me!! David S.
Yes it has the carson top and the victoria hardtop. It would be good to see you join in, it's a 3 month build for this one so even I might get it finished
So on with the build. I've decided against the ardun engine but will be using the triple carbs from it. The ardun looked nice sitting in the bay but the finned heads in the kit are too nice not to use and it will save some fit problems with the chassis later. The parts in the kit
oops, thats the wrong chrome sprue, thats from the 57 chevy kit but some parts will be on the ford.
The first cut. I'm going custom on this so the kit rear seat is just too plain. I decided to change it for one that is more in keeping with a late 50s/early 60s custom. Using the back of an exacto I cut out the rear seat and replaced it with the custom option from the 53 studebaker kit/
I've also started on modifying the front end, I'll be using a floating grille in the option front end (one of 4 front options and about 12 grille options) and the 53 studebaker front bumper.
At the rear I have removed the moulding for the rear lights as my plan is to rotate them 90 degrees, and may use the stock rear bumper with the over riders removed.
